About us

The Pioneer has raised the bar for irresistible BBQ, right here in San Diego! Owners Chef Hanis Cavin and longtime friend Willie DePascale  assembled an unrivaled team who offer a full rack of specialties including smoked meat combos, brisket-topped burgers, the Porko Sando, and a tangy twist on several barbecue classics.

Grand scale visuals of a whole hog in both graphic and chalkboard form along with vintage tool drawings flank our exterior. Once inside you’ll be surrounded by an Americana style design that is both patriotic and farmhouse, extending a vibe that invites every guest to stay for a while and savor some goodies. Come watch your favorite sporting event on one of our 17 flat screen TV's, while some of Willie’s favorite “blues tunes” play in the background.

Our circular bar has 14 beer taps and presents an extensive beverage program with a broad range of cocktails, like our Frosé, featuring Absolut Vodka, frozen rosé & organic strawberry and peach, and our signature “Pioneer” featuring maker's mark, cognac, maple syrup, angostura & black walnut bitters, applewood smoke.
